Burlington House, London, UK

Burlington House
Arts and Sciences in the Heart of London

Burlington House is on Piccadilly and is easily spotted as it usually decked out in huge banners announcing the latest exhibitions from the Royal Academy of Arts. However, once through the arched gateway and into Annenberg Courtyard the keen observer will notice that the Royal Academy is far from being the only learned society to have its home here.

Burlington House is also home to
The Royal Astronomical Society
The Royal Society of Chemistry
The Geological Society
The Linnean Society
The Society of Antiquaries

The Royal Society was once also here but has since moved on to larger premises. The Burlington House website has a schedule of interdisciplinary lectures and events fostering collaboration between the diverse learned societies in this historic building.

The layout of fountains, created in 2000 in the central Annenberg Courtyard, reflects the pattern of the planets in relation to the stars at the birth of Sir Joshua Reynolds (the first president of the Royal Academy) 16 July 1723.
